Federal Government’s Loan & Grant Programs for Small Businesses

Final program guidelines are due out in a couple days for details about Federal loan and grant programs, and info on the specifics of the process will come out over next few weeks, but below we've outlined what we know for now. There are two main sides to the financial assistance:

  1. Economic Injury Disaster Loans (EIDLs):
  2. Link to apply through SBA:
  3. These have always existed, but pandemics have been added to the definition of “disasters”
  4. Can borrow up to $2M at a ~3.75% rate
  5. Loan approval is now much easier, much of the bureaucracy has been removed.
  6. $10k forgivable cash advances are available if spent on payroll, rent, etc.

  1. Paycheck Protection Program (PPP)
  2. Link to more info:
  3. These will be popular.
  4. Loans up to $10M or 2.5x your business’s monthly payroll costs
  5. Loans will be forgiven if funds are spent on payroll to retain/hire back employees, rent, utilities, other employee benefits.
  6. **These loans are issued through banks, not the SBA. The best way to get more info is to reach out to the institution you currently bank with for your business/personally**.
